A Magical Weekend: Highlights from the 2025 Ithaca Festival

The 2025 Ithaca Festival, held from May 29 to June 1, transformed Downtown Ithaca into a vibrant celebration of art, music, and community. Embracing the theme “Enchanted Ithaca,” the festival showcased the city’s creative spirit through a variety of events and activities.


Parade of Whimsy


The festivities kicked off with the annual parade on Thursday evening, featuring hundreds of marchers, elaborate costumes, and whimsical floats. Highlights included dancing Volvos and towering puppets, embodying the festival’s playful atmosphere. Mayor Robert Cantelmo and Police Chief Tom Kelly led the procession, which drew large crowds along Cayuga Street .


Artisan Craft Fair


The Spring Craft Fair showcased nearly 100 local and regional vendors offering handmade goods ranging from jewelry and pottery to clothing and artisanal foods. Attendees enjoyed browsing unique creations and sampling small-batch syrups, honeys, and wines .


Live Performances and Workshops


Over 70 performances took place across four stages throughout the city, featuring local musicians, community groups, and touring artists. Despite intermittent rain, the music continued, with DJs spinning vinyl in a cozy alley on West State Street . Family-friendly art workshops provided interactive experiences for all ages.  


Festival Art and Merchandise


Bethany Parisi’s artwork, reflecting the “Enchanted Ithaca” theme, adorned festival merchandise, including the iconic $5 buttons that support the festival’s programming .


Community Spirit


Despite weather challenges, the festival maintained its lively atmosphere, with attendees embracing the festivities rain or shine. The event reinforced Ithaca’s commitment to celebrating creativity and community engagement.
