Free Pet Wellness Clinic Opens to Veterans and First Responders

Veterans, military members and first responders across the region will have an opportunity to receive free veterinary care for their dogs and cats during a special wellness clinic in Montour Falls next month.

The Humane Society of Schuyler County is partnering with Cornell University’s Shelter and Community Medicine Program to hold the clinic on Saturday, October 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Humane Society, located at 124 Marina Drive in Montour Falls.

The clinic will provide a range of preventive and basic veterinary services at no charge, including vaccinations, microchipping, flea, tick and heartworm services, deworming, and basic care for skin and ear problems. The program is available for both dogs and cats, including companion animals, service animals and emotional support animals.

Who is eligible?

The free clinic is open to active-duty military members and veterans, as well as law enforcement personnel, volunteer and career firefighters, ambulance drivers, and paid or volunteer EMTs.

Importantly, there is no income requirement and participants do not need to live in Schuyler County to receive services.

The clinic is being supported through the Hero Companion Care Fund, established by the Gary Sinise Foundation. The program works with Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine to expand access to veterinary services for military members and veterans.

How to register

Advance registration is encouraged by the Humane Society to help make the clinic run efficiently. According to the organization, walk-ins may also be accommodated if time and space allow.

For veterans and first responders who have postponed routine veterinary care because of cost, the October clinic provides an opportunity to catch up on important preventive services without an additional household expense.
